Many times the older members will be the ones who take on the leadership roles in the chapter, which may leave the newer members feeling left out or it may make them feel that they are not an important part in the operating success of a chapter.
As Adult Leaders, it is important to make sure every member in the chapter participates. Every member has a voice whether the chapter is voting on an application for membership, or whether the chapter is voting what fun activity they want to plan.
For new members that are shy, it will benefit the chapter to make sure they get involved. During a chapter meeting, hold a discussion about upcoming events, or events that are happening in the world. Ask each member to give their opinions or beliefs about the topic. This will encourage the younger members to be an active voice in the chapter and by having each member speak in front of the chapter, it will improve their public speaking skills and it will make it easier for the members to step up and assume a leadership role in the chapter.
It may also be beneficial to have the Master Councilor create commitees that the younger members can be a part of. This will ensure that every member has a job in the chapter and it will make each member an important part of the chapter's success. By keeping the members involved and showing them that they have a voice in the chapter, more members are likely to show up to meetings and events because they are part of it. |
