Why Does It Matter?

DeMolay is one of the most important parts of a member's life. DeMolay provides the members with public speaking skills, leadership and teambuilding skills and friendships that will last them the rest of their lives.

For many members, DeMolay is their outlet. It is their chance to forget the problems of their lives and take part in an organization that supports them in everything they do, and teaches them how to become better sons and better men. It is their chance to hang out with their friends and take part in activities that, without DeMolay, they would not be able to do.
In many chapters, the DeMolay's will feel more comfortable talking about their problems regarding school, girls or anything else with each other and with the advisors than they would with their own parents.

As Advisors you are the foundation and support for growing members. They will look to you for guidance and support if they need it. You will occasionally have a DeMolay approach you looking for some advice on a part of their lives. You may even have a DeMolay talk to you about their personal life which may include problems they are having at home with their parents. In some instances you may become a second father to the member.

There is no better feeling for a young man going through the difficult ages of 12 to 21, than the feeling that everything will be ok, the feeling that someone will always be there to listen to his problems and offer advice and the feeling that he has support and that someone cares about him in his life.

DeMolay matters because it gives the members a place to have fun and be accepted, and you matter as an advisor because with your support, you can help make a change in someone's life, and help a young man become better than he has ever been before.
