Change the Vision, Not the Values

In 1942, with America embroiled in World War II, DeMolay faced the possibility of losing as many as 4 out of 5 of it's active members to the draft. Dad Frank S. Land saw this crisis as an opportunity. He sent a letter to local Advisors, outlining his vision for what was to come and how the vision of DeMolay would be changed. Below is the full copy of the letter that was written to the Advisors.

In today's society, it is easy to think that DeMolay is beginning to lose its focus; that the virtues we teach are no longer used in today's world and that DeMolay needs to change its virtues to appeal to the youth of today.

In fact, America's youth needs our help more than ever to become better sons and better men. In times when DeMolay seems to thin out, it is important to keep our value and virtues since they are the foundation of who we are and what we stand for. The vision has changed from preparing young men for their homelife, to preparing young men for war time, but the values have always remained the same. Just as Dad Land stated in his letter, it is important to never give up on our values and virtues, they are what make us DeMolays.
