What is the Purpose of a Parent's Club?
A Parent's Club is a very important part of a chapter. The Parent's Club assists the chapter in any and all ways to ensure that the chapter is successful. The Parent's Club does this by holding events such as fundraisers to help the members pay for items like the maintenance of robes or other chapter paraphernalia, by organizing and providing transportation for the members when they need to get to a meeting or event, or even by informing other parents about what events are approaching. Overall, the Parent's Club is focused on helping.
Who Is in the Parent's Club?
Just as the name suggests, Parents make up the Parent's Club. This is a great way for the member's parents to take an active role in their son's life without having to be an official member of the Advisory Council.
How Can Our Chapter Start a Parent's Club?
There is only one thing a chapter needs to do in order to start a Parent's Club and that is to find Parents that are interested in being an active participant in the chapter.
A good sized Parent's Club is usually about 5 active parents that attend meetings and events.
The best way to start a Parent's Club is to find 1 or 2 Parents who would be interested in being the President and Vice President of the Parents Club. These people notify the other members about upcoming events and oversee the projects the Parent's Club is doing to help the chapter.
Once the Parent's Club has a President, the rest is simply getting other parents to participate and informing them about how they can be involved with their sons by being a member of the club.
What are some of the ways the Parent's Club can help the chapter?
The Parent's Club can do anything they feel will help the chapter. This could include having a parent who can sew be in charge of repairing robes and costumes, or a parent that can bring refreshments for the members after the meeting, or even a parent who can pick up various members of the chapter and take them to meetings and events. Why Should I Join the Parent's Club?
The Parent's Club is ideal for working parents who may not have time to be a full time advisor for DeMolay. In the Parent's Club, you will get a chance to take part in your son's life and watch your son's transformation into a man.
Many chapters who have an active Parent's Club are more successful than those without one because they have support from their parents.
The Parent's Club is DeMolay's way of ensuring that every parent, no matter how busy, has a chance to be part of their son's life.
